Hmm well I take that comment back then... Is your arm rest made out of cloth?

Yes, same cloth as the seats, and I leave it up when driving around town. do put it down on the highway sometimes, when it will be in 5th gear for long hauls.

That's awesome that you have a 5 speed, what a car! I'm also wondering if Mercedes offered all four hand grips on the headliner for manual W123s, do you know? All manual W123s I have seen don't have a driver's hand grip. Which makes sense, but now that I see they can come with arm rests it got me wondering.

I don't remember seeing any hand grips on the headliner in the coupe. I will have to look, in the spring time, as the car is in the storage for the winter.

in all seriousness though..what’s the consensus on this one?

https://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/cto/d/1985-mercedes-sdl-300-turbo/6462121265.html

mileage seems suspicious given the appearance, but maybe (?)

I’m thinking it might be a nice car to snag for 1K

Looks like the vehicle that hit an officer in Times Square on 1/14 doing a burnout. Sorry no link.

My guess is the odometer stopped working and someone swapped in a new one with low miles or that the tow yard it's at doesn't realize its not spinning anymore.

U can also just pull the the cluster and look at the date stamp that's on the back of the speedo. It will be stamped with either 85 or 84.

U simply just need to get mote info on that car... Yes if it has 94k then grab it up but u need to talk to the seller and see what he knows about it.

Especially if it's at a tow yard? How does they know the maintenance is up to date. But just see what u can find out and if it's legit you may have a good deal

Edit above post: I thought it said tow yard. It's at a shop. I'm sorry. Things have better chance of adding up now.

How come I can't edit my post on mobile mode anyways???

I generally think that getting a car for 75% of the asking price could be reasonable. 50% is the kind of attitude that can piss off a seller to the point they won’t talk to you. Start by asking if the price is negotiable at all before wasting either your time or theirs.

Ya if your hoping to get a grand you basically have to bank on the car running like sh** during the test drive... Which people means the odometer is wrong.

Although... Chances are, the car is not his and he is selling for an old customer who basically told him to sell it and get more than scrap value...

This could also mean this guy has all the service records for the vehicle.

Plus a first year SDL isn't worth as much as a 85 300d or 300sd would be. Sdls seem to top out around 2500 in good condition with 200k

Umm, I'd be quite skeptical of a car which has a truck parked behind it that advertises; "Water Cleanup and Restoration, like it never happened", with no interior pictures.

$2K can quickly turn into $5K or greater to rehab a flooded vehicle.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Storm-Soaks-as-Region-Braces-for-Flash-Flood-Watch-High-Wind-Warning-Sandy-Anniversary--453971423.html

Note the large storm drain behind the car in the first picture.

it's actually a w126 om617 diesel. they didn't make an SDL turbo in 85. guys already lying.

its probably worth about $1300 despite the condition and miles.

That thing is a parts car at best. Would not bother with having that as a driver, unless the engine and suspension, etc, was kept at "peach parts condition". Then I would negotiate the price and snag it up. That's not likely the case I suspect.
