Palamino SEM spray paint doesn't match

Has anyone used the SEP Palamino spray paint for interior pieces. It came out a few shades lighter than my interior, and was wondering if anyone used a different color or brand.

I have heard some people talk about the stuff you buy in AutoZone, or Advanced Auto parts, I think the color was sand, or something like that?

one reason it is probibly a different shade is that your interior is probably 25 yrs old!

I found it amazingly close to the interior color on my '83 300D. I let greasybenz borrow a can of it, maybe he will see this and chime in. What they haven't made yet is SEM pink flesh tone (as in sun bleached Palomino!)

Curious, when you let it dry, does it smell at all like paint?

The paint is lighter than my interior by like 2 shades.

It is very strong smelling going on, it has a high VOX, but it is a very neat paint. applied great, was very satisfied until I put it next to the rest of my darker interior.

My interior is darker than the spray paint. The only faded part is my back bench seat top..

I have had great results with the Palomino spray dye from World Upholstery.com

When I installed rear headrests into my w123 I used a pair of gray leather rear headrests from a W126 560SEL. Rather then investing in new covers to match my Palomino interior I opted to use the spray dye as a temporary solution. I applied 3 coats to each headrest and the color match is dead on. The dye went on smooth, and dried quickly to a natural matte-like factory finish.

Attached is a pic taken after the install. You would never guess that the headrests are dyed from gray.

Funny you should bring this up, because I just bought a can of SEM Palomino spray two days ago. The color chip at the store was darker than my interior (88 300E) so I will have to spray something tomorrow to see how it comes out. I have used this stuff before with good results, the only thing is that it was rather shiny finish.

My interior is in good shape, but I wanted to spray the armrest, first aid box, misc stuff, now I need help. It looks bad.

I sprayed a peice of vinyl off of the "B" pillar from a palomino interior and it is definitely lighter than what I have in my interior. However, I could probably use it for the seats and headrests as they are the lightest of all the different shades of palomino in my car. I don't know what has faded or aged darker, but I would imagine that when new the interior was a bunch of slightly different shades to start out with, simply because it is almost impossible to mold the same color into so many different materials. I may try to find a darker, orange-y brown SEM spray to use as a primer, as this stuff is not opaque. That may help. You can always take a hard peice of plastic (like the doorsill) to the paint shop and have them custom-mix the SEM for you. I have done this and it was exact.

good idea

That sounds like a good idea, thanks.

I have never thought of something like that, do they color match, and put in a spray can???

I have had it matched before. I also had it mixed to a factory color that they had in thier books. Depends on the shop. It came in a pint-sized can and I used a PreVal sprayer (small with gas cartridge attached; under 10 bucks) and it worked out really well. I am also looking at World Upholstery's Leather and Vinyl Dye. It comes in a can and costs 18 bucks. If anyone knows MB seats, they do. http://www.worlduph.com/semdye.htm

still no go

I bought some other paint at autozone, but it came out too orange....now I need something inbetween...

I think I will try the color match idea, and see.. if that is even close I will be happy.

I think I am going to go for the color match approach. Just puzzled, because I have bought door map pockets, and sunvisors, and other stuff used from others and it all has matched color wise, but get the spray paint and it is so way off...
