83 300 D oil in diesel fuel
Forum,
Still looking for a thread or help to resolve seeing oil in my diesel fuel through both the fuel filter and replacing the fuel line out of the tank. The fuel that drained out from replacing the line also showed up with a dark hue. Can anyone direct me to an existing thread or tell me if you've had the same experience and direction for diagnosing/resolving the problem? Thank you. The Last Boy Scout |

o-ring on the lift pump. There was a thread specifically on this topic within the last 2 weeks with a picture of the pump and ring.

Problem – Engine oil contamination of fuel – Remedy:- Replacement of oil-seal between fuel lift-pump and IP applicable on all 616/617 and earlier engines with hand primer Pump. 1) Remove oil supply line to IP. Two banjo bolts (12mm). Handle very carefully as plastic pipe is brittle! 2) Remove fuel lift-pump from IP – three M6 nuts. You need a short 10mm open/ring. Be ready to catch about half-pint of engine oil when you break seal. 3) Remove spring clip that retains roller/cam follower assy. and lift out. Withdraw the 5mm push rod with long nose pliers. 4) Remove old 5mm “O” ring (if still there!) from groove in bore and clean out groove. An old dental pick is ideal for this. 5) Replace with 5mmØ x 1.50mm “O” ring only. A 1.25mm or 1.75 ring will not work. Kit not available from MB agent – must be synthetic so a bearing/oil seal store is your best source. (Tip - push ring sideways into bore first and roll it into groove with 2mm rod) 6) Remove pipe fittings and valves to clean thoroughly. 7) Re-assemble making new gasket if necessary. Time? ± one hour. Have a nice day

I have asked at the local hardware store and 2 McParts places with no luck finding metric O-rings. What is a bearing/oil seal store?
BTW beagle, your thread was golden - really cool diy fix!

Bosch Service Station
The Bosch Diesel "Workshop" will have your o-ring
Pick one Near You... http://www.boschservice.com/ServiceLocations/ImageMapResults/ImageMapResults.htm?st=TX&typ=DC&cntry=USA If you're in Texas. OR http://www.boschservice.com/ServiceLocations/DieselServiceCenter/ North America For Example the Robert Bosch Gmbh Service organization in the US maintains an automated illustrated electronic parts catalog online for it's dealers... This is a link to user instructions for the dealers:http://www.boschservice.com/NR/rdonlyres/4AE3BCDA-71B8-4B0D-ADFD-53B2B6DEFBC8/0/TDI.pdf Even from the user guide alone you can see the incredible information AND detail (In User FRIENDLY form) that allows the Bosch dealers to service their customers [From MTU operators to VW TDI owners to Freightliner fleets] These guys KNOW their stuff! (Not like dealing with the local "Mac MB" parts counter.)

A store specializing in bearings and oil seals. Try yellow pages or phone any Auto Service manager - he should be able to recommend one in your area.
Good Luck!

I have a box of O-rings and they list the sizes as mm ID xmm OD xmm w (width). Example: 6mmx10mmx2mm I am guessing that the O-ring you are speaking of is 5mmx?mmx1.5mm Do you know the missing dimension? Do you think the OD is 8mm?
