My post count is stuck...

It's been at 702 for quite a while, and doesn't change when I make a new post. I'm not a post whore, generally speaking, so it's not that big a deal, but it's kind of odd.

Edit: And by making this post, it went to 703. Very strange - do we not get credit for new posts in OD? I would understand the implicit judgement there, but still...

The Webmaster just happened to post yesterday that posts in the Open Discussion forum no longer count toward your post count.

You mean useless, inconsequential drivel (and responses to same) won't get me over the 1000 post mark? I'm going to have to actually discuss cars for 300 posts? Damn, that could take a while!

I just noticed my post count is almost 5,500. Unbelievable.

I wonder where that puts me in the ranking.

You're number 15 (go to Members List, and click on "Posts", that changes the sort criteria). BHD is all alone over 15k, Bot is over 10k, everyone else at the top in 4 digits. What I find impressive are guys like Larry Bible, stevebfl, etc., who got to those post counts without significant OD participation.

15? Man, I fell behind. There was a time when I was number 7.

That's the reason we decided to stop counting posts in OD.

OD is almost like a chat room where the technical forums are a database of valuable knowledge. People are not likely to search through the threads in OD a year from now to find an answer. There are nearly 100,000 posts in OD but, the 20,000 posts in the SL forum are more valuable.

It's sort of an incentive for members to share technical knowledge.

Who gives a crap about post counts in the first place? I hope people who are anal about post counts won't start to post OD topics in other areas.
