Just browsing the site on my laptop on the wireless connection which tops out at about 19.2k roughly which is inbetween a 14.4 modem and a 28.8 modem, site loads fine and is very usuable on this connection. I do have image quality reduced though to speed loading, but the site loads quick and it works well.
Just thought you might like to know since you are always looking to improve speed on the site, it runs plenty fast enough for me from the wireless connection, so on a modem at 28.8 it is also fine. My DSL at home got killed by the line provider going bankrupt, so DSL is down and I'm on a 56k at home, site still loads quick on the 56k modem. Keep up the good work. Alon |
Thanks for the feedback.
I have DSL too but I often use dialup just to check load times myself since DSL and cable modems are still pretty rare. I take it that you had Northpoint? Hopefully, one of the baby bells will pick up the Northpoint customers as soon as the equipment issues can be sorted out. |
Yes indeedy, HAD is the right word. :(
My ISP tells me about it about 8 hours before it went down. Hows that for timing, and you know they have known about it for months. All the offered me was to sign a new contract with an ISP they chose, who I dealt with once already and they had horrible customer service, so essentially my ISP has cancelled my contract, my two year contract, 1.5 years early. So I am now inquiring with other companies. Have you ever checked dslreports.com? I went there, and have been investigating diff isp's that say they service my area. I think I have found 3 so far that are worth looking into. Megapath Surfcity Speakeasy I think surfcity has a good price but whther they can provide the speed. Alon |
Yes, I have been to dslreports...good info.
Eventually, only the baby bells will offer dsl. I would go that way if dsl is what you want. What about cable? Can you get a cable modem? |
Most of the time this site loads just fine with my cable modem and my PIII-650 w/128 MB RAM. Any slowness seems to come in the evening hours during peak usage times. At work we have a 100baseT/DS3 internet connection and it's not that much faster than the cable modem. This suggests that the bottleneck is internet traffic, or our LAN admins have us throttled down to 400 Kbps or so.

Cable modems are THE best. It takes me a couple of minutes to download a 5 minute song. Everybody in N.Y has a Cable modem. I always thought that everywhere in the nation they offer cable modems.

In most cases, two-way cable modems will be available only in areas with enough residential density and/or competition to justify the cost of the network upgrade. One-way modems are more widespread.
