Problem with installing radial sealing ring on 1984 300D Turbo front wheel hub.

To any who can help. I had to replace the front calipers on my 1984 300D turbo diesel and went on to replace the wheel bearings at the same time. Got all the parts from MerdedesShop.com. What they sent was the radial sealing ring part # 50-70-13.5 which is what the MB W-123 service manual calls for. My problem is the old one was a 50-70-9.5 national-Spain type. So in trying to install the 13.5 it does not come flush with the wheel hub like the 9.5 did. Can some one tell me if when installing the seal if it is to come flush whit the wheel hub or not? I only got this car last month and do not see a history of the previous owner changing out the wheel hubs. Did someone just use the wrong seal or do I have some other problems. Note this 9.5 seal is also sort of a hard rubber outer shell, where as the 13.5 seal has a metal outer jacket. Right in the middle of trying to put things back together could someone reply soon. Phil doesn't work weekends.

Answer

Hello ggarvis
It should be ok, however since the new seal is installed in the hub.
Mount the unit, spin it, remove and check the seal for damage.
Call me Monday if there are warranty issues.
