Exclamation Server replacement coming soon

Our trusty old server is getting long in the tooth and is starting to cause problems. We had an outage today for a while and may have a few more in the coming weeks.

I have a new server on order and have been running a test server locally to determine the best OS software, applications and utilities. Hopefully, we'll be moved over before the end of November if all goes well.

Please excuse the interruptions.

Post Old server vs new

We've had the current server for a little over 3 years. The old hardware is still doing fine. We've had to replace some hard drives over the years but otherwise it's been satisfactory. The problem is the software. It's easier, cheaper and results in less downtime to move to a new server than to upgrade the software on the old server.

We're also doubling the RAM and going with a faster hard drive setup than we currently have.

Old Server

HARDWARE
Dual Xeon 2.66G
2GB of RAM
4 - 36GB SCSI (15k rpm) in RAID 5

SOFTWARE
Redhat Fedora Core 1
Linux kernel - 2.4.26
Apache - 2.0.50
PHP - 4.3.10
MySQL - 4.0.20

New Server

HARDWARE
Xeon Quad Core 1.86G
4GB RAM
4 - 73GB SAS (15k rpm) in RAID 10

SOFTWARE
CentOS 5 (64 bit)
Linux kernel - 2.6.18
Apache - 2.2.3
PHP - 5.1.6
MySQL - 5.0.22

Exclamation Maybe this weekend

We're getting closer to the move to the new server. If all goes well it will happen this weekend.

NOTE - There WILL be 24 to 48 hours of downtime as the DNS servers update.

Mercedesshop is still a dead link. Could that be revived?
Many of us thought this site has met her untimely demise!

No, it can not be revived = the name is now property of MB.
