How to react, Spam E Mail via peachparts.com?

Today I got a spam E Mail through the address I have listed on this website. Has anybody else gotten any spam that way? Apparently, this spammer has a way of collecting addresses from this website to send spam to.

Post Spammers

Any spammer can register as a legitimate member and use the system to post spam messages, send spam PM's or emails. Once they are registered they have the same system privileges as any member.

All you have to do is report the spammer to me or any Moderator and we ban them. This revokes their ability to do anything under that member account. I often ban their IP address as well. That's about all we can do when the spammer is a real human.

We try to fight robotic spammers by using the "CAPTCHA" image verification during the registration process. Currently we are using reCAPTCHA to stop spambots from registering. It's working reasonably well for now in keeping most spambots out but, it also makes it a real pain for humans to register as well. It's always a trade off.

I've seen spam on the forum before, but that was the first time in three years I've gotten spammed on my E Mail via mercedesshop. I guess that just goes to show that you guys are doing a great job. Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, how many spambots attack the website a month/week or whatever?

Did you ever think that one day you would be using words like "Spambots?"

No

Lot's of things weird like that

10 years ago would you have dreamed about paying a company to come to your location and shred documents for $4K?

I can't give you an exact number because we don't track unsuccessful registration attempts. My guess would be hundreds/week.

Oh, at least. I help run another forum (phpbb-based); we have about 2% of the registered users you have here and far less lurkers/day, and we have dozens to hundreds of such attempts every week.

Hi to everyone here.. I've just joined you

I help run a website of 3yrs with 71,000 members and i stopped using captcha and replaced it with a simple question for new members to answer.. Together with a list of known spam email addresses and Ip's we now get no spam at all bar the odd member from china joining just to advertise their stuff..
I also restricted usernames to a max of 10 characters because i noticed spambots tended to use 11.. Result.. no spambots..
