What happened to Sam Ross

Looks like Sam Ross has started posting on that "other Benz forum" and not here.

What happened?

Did he do something to get banned?

I always enjoyed his detailed explanations.

Yes

He crossed the line, and was banned.

I'm sorry, this kind of grates on me a little. Here we have a forum for Mercedes Owners. a fairly complicated and high maintenance vehicle, that alot of us seek experienced and seasoned help with. If we have a member who is EXTREMELY versed in these cars and he "crosses the line" he will be banned, and we somehow feel better off missing that rather large chunk of expertise? I don't see the logic.

Yeah I agree. What did he do to "cross the line"?

People who know these cars well should be allowed to stick around and help others out when they have questions. No one is perfect and crap will hit the fan but in the long run if they helped someone keep their car running well and not going to the junkyard.

Who Moderates the moderators?

I can respect the fact that if someone breaks the rules; they break the rules. There are terms of use for this and any other forum, but they are vague at best.
I'm sure that if Whunter were to break a rule or two he'd be banned as well..or at least I hope he would be to show that he is not above the 'law'. My Opinions, of course are expressed with the utmost respect.

I found ForcedInduction's ban rather unnerving. Albeit temporary, his absence did take away from the usefulness of the Diesel Tech forum.

and I believe that this type of inquiry about a respected and helpful member does require, a slightly more detailed response than "Yes"

Once you collect a few warnings/infractions, you have probably had the opportunity to exchange a couple PMs (private messages) with the Moderator that issued the infraction/warning(s). One can usually get a feel of what will and won't pass around here, after a couple three exchanges. For instance, Brian Carlton has explained a few things to me when I PMed him. That can give you an idea of what is and isn't expected, to remain in good standing. The worst place to be is on the bad side of any Moderator. Here, or elsewhere on the net.

I guess I'm not thru the threads enough to notice people's infractions.

A few, I used to be a member of one but it dissapeared..so I found this one, and it's way better. The other 'model specific' forums are good too.

That's pretty accurate. I personally hate to see anyone other than spammers banned. This is especially true when it is someone who has been on the forum for quite a while and has made a meaningful contribution. Unfortunately, we all have our limits. We have to draw the line somewhere and in this case the line was crossed. I'll leave it at that.

I just saw this. I have to say this is shocking!

I've met Sam in person, nice 70 something year old fella (Sorry Sam if I got your age wrong). His knowledge will be missed.

How long does a ban last?

Are all bans created equal?

Is there anything stopping someone from coming back under a different handle? (obviously we would KNOW it was Sam, he couldn't hide who he is to save his life)
