message gone

I was answering this thread
Best and worst road trips in your diesel MB.

I typed a long post of several trips we were on, and some close calls with oil cooler lines and finally of my timing chain fiasco.

I hit submit, and nothing for about 4 min, and finally the msg, the forum in down for maint.

I come back a while later to see if my msg got posted, and it`s not there. where did it go?

I left the screen just where it was figuring if i click out it would screw up it getting posted or what ever.

Charlie

If you tried to post the message while the forum was down for maintenance then the message is lost. It is not possible to post a message when the forum is down for maintenance.

LOL, I have lost several long posts due to the stupid touch pad on my laptop... my hand contacts it and GONE IN A FLASH.... no way to find it...
The rather humdrum solution to both of our problems is to compose in Notepad ... then control c, control v into the window for posting.. and then check to see if it actually made it ... Not usually worth it... but on long posts IT IS .... I was sick when I lost really good and funny posts to my touchpad..
Some really good posts were lost when TxBill took all his posts off the forum... many of us lost hundreds of posts...

if your typing in the Text box and have not typed anything past when it disappears. CTRL+Z should undo the delete.

When I started typing the post, the forum was up and running. when I got through, I hit submit, and the little round thing kept going aroind and around etc.... then after a couple minutes the msg pops us, the forum in down. maybe if I hit the back button it would have taken me back to the post?

there is no way of knowing the forum is going down while typing something.

Using Notepad as Leathermang suggested is exactly what I do myself on other forums when I post something longer than a couple of sentences.

I usually take the forum down every week for 15-20 minutes to do database maintenance. It's almost always on Saturday or Sunday. Late morning or early afternoon mostly. Whenever I find time.

In that situation you can sometimes get away with doing a "refresh page" in your browser - you'll then get a text box that asks if you want to resend the information - click yes and it could come good.
