any suggestions? the stuff in the local market doesn't really work.

The only thing I have seen that might work is one that you screw into the door panel. It is shown in the Performance Products catalog for $39.95. comes in various colors to match interior. Their web site is

Thanks Gary. I just have a problem screwing stuff into the door panel. have you used it? $40 for a cup holder!! It must keep the coffee warm or something

No I'm not going to do that either, and I agree $40...give me a break!
I guess the German;s figured why would you be drinking a cup of coffee while doing 150 mph down the autobahn!

Here is a better one. It is the same cupholder as in the SL 500 and is made in Germany:

It mounts on the door panel in '93-'95 W124's because our center console is not open like that in earlier W124's. We have the larger center armrest with the flip up lid with storage, as well as the locking box beneath it mounted in the center console.

Here's my suggestion, flip the armrest up, and put your cup in the cubby hole or lock box that's right behind the window switches, you can use the door of the lock box to hold the cup steady, that's what I do.

In my 190e I use the ashtray holder as a cupholder, I removed the ashtray since I don't smoke.

Be creative.

I also use that storage compartment to hold a drink. You just slide the door shut to the size of the container and holds the container in there real good and tight.

I ultimately decided to mount the cupholders in my doors because in the long run, it's just too inconvenient to lose the armrest to a drink. Also, on trips, invariably my wife and I will both have drinks, and one of us will have to hold our drink in our lap.

Yes, with four screws provided.

If you buy the kind that you'll find on the parts counter at any Mercedes dealer, you'll find they'll also install with four screws. The kind at the dealer are of lower quality.

If you have a '93-'95 W124, the only place you have to mount a cupholder is on the doors. If you have a '92 or earlier, you can mount it in the center console because it is open.

In the Performance Products site there is a fold-up single drink holder for $ 39.95 in serveral colors. Thats the ECACT same one I bought at a local RV store for $ 5.00+ tax. Must be a nice mark-up in these .

Yeah, I also noticed the one that Performance Products sells is the same one that the dealers sell at their parts counter.

I also notice that it's the same cupholder that's in my friends 15 year old fishing boat.

The black plastic one that I bought at www.griotsgarage.com and shown is the pictures is a veeeeery nice unit.

I have also noticed that the new wagons, in the rear, have cup holders that would probably fit. I don't know what they sell for.

Have you had a pass slam the door with the cup still in the holder?

Is there any space on the side of the center console or the frontal dash area, that any one has tried out?

Been in the consideration process for some time now, but have not taken any action on perm solutions, tried out some of those hang in the window with a tab type, worked ok till some one pulled it out and then later it fell on the floor and got stomped on.

If I had to point any down side to the design of my car’s interior it would be two things: not having a glove box and not having cup holders. I have a problem screwing things into my leather door panels besides the space there is really small and not that practical. For now I’ll stick to using my wide-base non-slide coffee mug and leave it on the floor by the passenger side when i am done drinking coffee.
