Experience with Leatherique Products

I have seen a lot of hype about the cleaning and softening abilities of the Leatherique product line. Several months ago I bought some Rejuvenating Oil, and some Pristine (cleaner) to use on the dirty, cracked leather in my 380SL. I tried the oil, but probably did not stay with it long enough to make a difference.

My new 280SL has immaculate light grey leather, but with some dirty areas on the bolsters where people have put their hands getting in and out over the years. So I thought I would try the Leatherique on these spots.

The directions are to apply the oil, rub it in, let it sit, apply the cleaner, and then wipe with a damp cloth. So I basically did that, allowing the oil to sit for a couple of hours. As the directions warned, the oil created a sticky finish on the bolster, supposedly the result of the dirt being drawn out of the leather.

So I put some of the Pristine on a paper towel, and wiped the oil off. Without exagerating, I was astounded at the dirt that came off, and the difference between the bolster I cleaned and the rest of the interior. So I followed the rest of the directions, and went over the cleaned area with a wet cloth.

All I can say is that I didn't realize how dirty the rest of the leather is!

I am not making this up.

I could not capture it in a picture, but trust me. This stuff costs like good Scotch, but it works.

Thumbs up Leatherique

with out a doubt the stuff just does the job.

my problem was the PO had used silicone like nuvinyl or son of a gun. the leather was hard as a rock. i called leatherique and the lady gave me low down describing the condition of my leather exactly. card board so tight it sounded like a drum when you thump it.

well i was lucky cause my car was in the shop. i used about a six month time period to rejuvenate the leather. all i can say is that it work absolutely perfect. not only cleaned but the leather is soft again. now just touch ups keep it soft and clean.

it's nice to have a product live up to it's claim

Lots of testimonies in the "Detailing" forum about Leatherique.

The seats in the ML and SL still look fresh, but I plan to try it out on the 300E as I work through its "resto" process (just replaced the console and other interior goodies).

Leatherique.

I am living with a set of 560SL seats that are MB TEX. The seats were painted/dyed/whatever prior to my purchase.

The other weekend, I decided that the interior was not as clean as I would like it. So, being the dummy that I am I took some Greased Lightning cleaner and sprayed the interior down and let the product sit.

Big mistake! the dye or paint came off in several places. This left streaks and large areas which are back down to the original palomino color.

Now, I don't mind redoing these seats, but I am wondering if Leatherique will remove all of this paint/dye if I apply it with Vaseline and let it sit in the heat for awhile?

I could then clean them real good and redye with Leatherique restorer?

Any comments?

You might want to call them or consider www.colorplus.com
They also have a very good dye product.

mb tex

i'm thinking that with the plastic MB TEX you're not going to be able to dye it. with leather yes because it has pores and can absorb were plastic can't. are you sure your seats are plastic and not leather? if they are plastic i believe you'll need a covering like a paint.

i would look around before getting a dye. you can ask leatherique if they have something but i'm thinking you should call colorplus like Rick said. i'd also try Eastwood and do a google search on plastic paints.
