SL "What's it worth?" kinda question
Hey all,
I am not usually lurking in this section as I am not usually lucky enough to be in the company of SL's anymore...but here's my question: What's it worth?!? We are discussing a 2 owner 1989 560SL, maroon w/ tan leather. It has 178k mi (2nd owner was a salesman and traveled OTR a lot), but has a pile of reciepts and service history w/ tons of work done recently (EHA, OVP, FPR, and super full tune-up, all in the last 1500mi) including a brand new auto transmission from Mercedes less than 3k mi ago. The soft top has never been up and is in perfect, brand new condition (black as can be and a super clear rear window, still needs to be stretched a bit), as is the hard top. It has '94 wheels and brand new Toyo proformance tires, air bags, ABS, and an aftermarket stereo. The interior is perfect, the leather seats were out of the car from 91-03 because the second owner had Recaro's put in, so the leathers are almost new. The exterior is also perfect. No rust (below the salt belt/no winters) and a brand spanking new paint job that should be completed next week! I have driven the car and it is a dream! I have already checked KBB/Edmunds/NADA and got figures btw $5k and $24K, so that was really helpful Any ideas as far as what to pay?!? Or at least what it would be worth on the open market? Thanks all! -Matt-

I would try for 8K or less. That mileage is a killer at resale, no matter how nice the car is.

So, is that the general agreement all around? $8k is the best to expect from such a model?

I paid $9,300 for an '88 identical color combo with 132k miles. It needed a new softtop, rocker repair on passenger side (not too bad-just rust at holes mounting trim), and brakes with a new caliper. if you can get that ride for $8k, you will be fine. Lot will depend on condition of body, top and interior. Highway miles are good for mechanical, but bad for paint and driver's seat. Oh, and make sure the motor mounts and radiator are fairly recent along with a timing chain and rails in the past 50k.
