air vent grill between hood and window 380SL
I have an inside rain leak and I think its rust somewhere inside those air vents.1985 380SL
Im looking at how that air vent/grill is attached and it looks like a plug of some sort. Its not a screw. Im trying to avoid taking it to a mechanic, but I cant, for starters, figure out how to even get the piece off that covers the vent. thanks guys. Last edited by rememberjeff; 09-27-2004 at 11:43 AM. On my 83 380Sl the grill vents our held in place by rivets. One should be able to very carefully drill the head of the rivet off don't run the drill all the way through. once the head is drilled off you should be able to take a small punch and tap the buck tail (back side) of the rivet out. My guess use like a # 30 drill bit. Just be carefull take your time

Wait!
As I remember, there isn't much to be seen under the grille.
If you take the blower cover off, and remove the blower motor you will see the tubes that eventually drain all the water off the windshield. They are probably plugged which will allow water into the cabin. If any of the various corners in the plenum have rusted through, that will also allow water to get in. I did a post on this last year.
