Emissions testing 300SL
In Ohio we are required to have emissions testing done every two years. No problem passing, but I have a technical question on my 91 300SL.
They normally bring the car to speed on a dinamonitor (sp?). This car will not allow them to bring the car over about 6 MPH. They then resort to a tail pipe test at a fast idle. Is there something technically that keeps the car from increasing speed when the front wheels are not moving?

why is speed limited on 2 wheel emission test
The traction control system, which cannot be switched off on a MBZ) requires the car be tested on a 4 wheel dynamometer, or a simple tail pipe test in neutral. The system senses the rear wheels 'slipping' because it does not sense the front wheels turning when the rear ones are turning. The emission testing center/shop HAS written instructions from the state regrding this issue.
