Convertibel top storage lid stuck

'83 380 SL The lid on the top storage compartment is stuck on one end. Any suggestions as to how to open it with the lid closed would be appreciated. The level opens the side next to the lever but not the other. Had been working just fine.

This really works: get a coathanger put a 1" hook on the end of it, open the trunk, and go through the opening along the passenger side hinge. snag the cable with the hook and pull back. The lid will pop. After readjusting my lid (and I'm not entirely satisfied with the results after 6 hours on it), I left a short piece of the coat hanger there in case of emergency (like, rain).
