All "links" to vendors and ETA repair methodology are contained in MENU#24 in my pages.

I keep a running update to new vendors and repair techniques. I srongly suggest you use the info there to your advantage.

My ASR has been on for a year now

Hi i have been almost every where to find someone that can help me diagnostic what to do.

My car 300E-24 (1991) converted by BRABUS to a 3.6-24

one day when driving with the CC on the car suddently slipt the CC and the ASR light came on.

I thought oh what now, but i could reset the fault/light by stopping the car and recycling the key.
Only to get the light on later on that day at a stoplight.

It accures to me that its getting worse and worse, and to day my light is on all time and can not be reset by recycling the key.
My mecanic told me that i have to change the whole "elektrical computer boks" witch is a cost of 2000 dollor i think.

This is not to my opinion the true of the error, becasue a elektronik computer boks donīt go broke more and more over time, this is to my opinion a mecanical worn out thing or something like an elektrical corrnection that is getting weak.

I hace read almost the whole treat and can understand that it is most likely the ETA
My mecanic change something that atached to the gas cable a cost of 500 dollars but this donīt looks like anything near the pictures i have seen of others ETAīs as this is only an attavhedment of the gas cable/linkage and i think itīs the gas position feller? (sorry for my english not so good)

if i pull my air housing of the engine i can see the gas cable and linkage.
And after the ASR light came on the gas pedal have been acting odd, some times the car woulndīt even go by puching the gas pedal, like nothing happent???

But always it has been like the first 1/3 og the gas was light and didenīt respond on it.
Only after proceeding through the 1/3 the car getīs was its being told by the gas pedal.

It looks so easly to locate the ETA on your M104 and M119 angines, but on my M104 the early version with the ok viring harnness i think, i canīt see where to start?

I hope you can help me sort this out, because itīs also effekting my CC (cruse controle not to work at the same time)

Best regards.
BRABUS

Seems like forever since I undertook this project.

I sold my '93 600SL long ago, and due to various other issues (like life), never kept up involvement unless someone contacted me. Everything in this thread is still applicable to this day. It seems that there has been a substantial increase in people attempting to repair their units in the intervening years.

'Google Images' searches will yield a great many high resolution photos of the inside of the ETA units, and there are likewise plenty of YouTube videos showing the internal operation of the units on a bench.

We were pioneering that information through the course of this thread in 2005, but it is more commonplace today.

Mercedes did make an engineering change, replacing the faulty wiring with silicone jacketed wire, though there is no official information available on when they informed their suppliers to make it. As far as I know, all of the harnesses that had the poorly chosen insulation (MAF/Main Harness/EFI Harness/ETAs/etc.), were switched over to silicone (please someone let me know if that isn't the case). The part prices from the factory are obviously exorbitant, and the labor involved in replacing all of them is no trivial consideration either.

I have seen a few people with a lot of time rebuild ALL of their 600's own harnesses with silicone or teflon based wire, with exceptional results.

The costs of rebuilt ETAs seems to be about the same now as it was in 2005, so obviously there is still a healthy market for them.

When I switched business names I neglected to change the links to the materials I posted throughout this project, but I do have all of the original information filed somewhere. If there is any interest, I will re-post them from a non-expiring storage source.

I'm still a car nut, I've owned close to 35 cars so far in my life... but none of them quite compares to the Mercedes 600SL. Nothing brightens your day quite like 424lbft of naturally aspirated torque!

Hey Justin, you hit the nail on the head with your assumptions. A couple of years ago I picked up a 1993 600SL. Same issue. Chased a cure. Finally rewired the TA's with Teflon, and no issues since. I also did the starter/alternator. Thank heavens the rest had been done earlier in its life. It would be a major benefit to the early V12 guys both here and Benz World. The 129 site would be a great place for your info. Make it happen!
