Headlamp Wiper Alignment?

I have a 1996 SL500 that I purchased last fall. I will be getting it out of winter storage shortly. The car is absolutley like new, however, the wipers on the headlamps are setting at different angles. Is this common? Is there a fix? Should I not worry about it?

at the base of the wiper arm, lift the plastic cap covering the mounting nut- 8mm-- remove this nut, wiggle the wiper arm until it lifts off -- realign to desired position-- replace the nut and tighten

Try operating them first, sometimes they'll park correctly on another go-round

I have to disagree with the remount the wiper advice. There are two possible problems here. If you do a search on the subject you will find the answers you're looking for. There is an electric component that heats up and stalls the motor with the extra current draw of an older wiper motor. A fix is listed either here or at mbnz.org. The second is the cam has jumped a notch. Either way, if the wiper does not return to park, it will puke all you washer fluid out in short order as the headlight pump runs until the arm is back to park. (There are two pumps in the washer res. you be well advised to unplug the one for the lamps until you get them fixed)

Yes, there actually is a recall on 129's for this, not sure what the affected years are though.

I had the headlamp wiper problem and had to get a new wiper motor. Not cheap.

If the wipers consistently park at the same location and it is not where you want them, then don't hesitate to do as SLBENZ1 suggests and adjust the wiper arms.

Oh, I found out, the recall for the 129 headlamp WASHER PUMP affects 1990 thru 1994, VIN range F000134 thru F098702. If you are unsure if your car has been done, have the dealer check your VMI for any outstanding recalls.
