headlight washer problem solved
1990 500SL:
Was told by MB dealer that I would most likely need a new pump for my headlight washers. Decided to investigate for myself and found the problem to be a very simple solution. I removed the one screw that held the resevoir in place and as well as the 2 top hoses and lifted out the resevoir. Turns out that the headlight washer hose leading from the resevoir had a section completely crimped shut (approx one inch). It appears that it had been caught under something and over time colapsed the section of hose. I went to the local hardware store, found a hose that matched in size and re-installed it. Tested it out and works fine. It seems to me that the factory hose (for the headlight washers only) is of inferior material compared to the windshield wiper hoses and to the quality rubber one that I bought to replace it. Might just replace the rest of the hoses that lead to the headlight wipers. Total cost of repair.....$2.67 Hope this can help out someone else that might have a similar problem. |
