Windscreens in a 107

I have a hard time justifing $400 for a windscreen and thought that I could make one a lot cheaper. Then I see the WindBlocker at $200 is basically a curtain rod with plexiglas attached and know that I am right.

I have not seen one installed and hoped that someone could post some pictures of how they are installed.
From what I can tell from the pictures and discriptions on the web the windscreen has two pieces.
One that blocks the wind from blowing down into the cockpit across the rear deck and one that moves up to block the wind towards the head rests.
Seems like most of the installs are done with Velcro at the pivot point. Is it attached the same way accross the rear deck?
I do not do a lot of highway driving with the top down. Would it make sense for me to just block the rear deck off?

Thanks in advance,
Gary

I have one they work great, $400 seems like a lot. I think I paid $250, but it was 6 years ago. Try this link:

I have the windscreen for the SL . I find it very usefull in the winter, more than in the summer. It's so hot in July Aug here in Texas that the top is up. But during the fall through the spring we tend to drive the car with the top down and the heat on. using the windscreen really helps keep it comfortable durning those months. we can drive the car between 50-95. Outside fo that range and the top must go up.

I would never have bought one because I'm a cheap bastard, but it came with the car from the previous owner. I have to say it's worth it. Reduces wind and noise tremendously at highway speeds. You can have a conversation or listen to the radio. I still probably wouldn't buy it, but I sure do enjoy it.

I found it while searching for info on this site.
I did not like the way it looked on the SL. This link may help you.
Anyone tried out this type of wind deflector on their SL?

ericdee
Thanks for the link.
The best pictures I have seen so far but I am looking for more detail of how they are attached. I do not want to reinvent it.

David
I am like you. Can not bring myself to pay that much.

Does it help at all in the down position?
It would be a lot easier to just make a panel that blocks the opening in the rear deck than one that also rises.

Can any of you post pictures of the way yours are attached?

Thanks
Gary

In regards to building a windscreen yourself, remember that I or any other plastic shop (in S.F. Bay area anyway) will charge $150.00 plus to cut,
drill and edge polish a piece of 1/8" Lexan 18" X 31". Please, don,t even think about using regular acrylic. Unfortunately Lexan turns yellow when exposed to UV's so maybe mesh is the way to go?

Thanks for the input. This makes the Windblocker seem resonably priced. I have never met a clear plastic I could not scratch or crack so I was not planning on going that way. In my experience with plastic headlight covers on a 96 Intrepid turning yellow I was able to polish it out with a cleaner/wax. It only lasts a few months but a lot cheaper then new ones.
