86 560SL loaner

Heya folks,
Not a normal member of this board - usually on Roadfly since all my previous vehicles have been BMW's... A friend of mine went off to Austria for a few months and left me his 1986 560SL with 78k miles (dark red w/ tan interior - don't know the exact colors yet). I miss my 5-speed, but this car is unique and classy enough that I can't resist driving it as much as I can (top down of course)...

He kept it in a garage pretty much the entire time he's had it - I took the liberty of claying, compounding and hard waxing the paint. It looks new and the paint feels like glass... gotta love removing those swirl marks.

Quick question: The power antenna stopped working recently - the motor is still running when I hit the switch, but it no longer extends or retracts ... and it feels loose... it can be pulled up and down by hand. Any way to fix it, or does the entire thing need to be replaced? If so, how much are those units?

Thanks!!!

Antenna Mast

$20 +/- for repair.

Do a search here for the how to... if the motor still runs, the nylon/plastic "cable" that pulls/pushes the mast is stripped of its teeth.

Very easy fix.
