Pax door switch in front of door

Hi

Just bought this SL a few weeks ago - 1991 300SL. A week ago, we took it on a long ride with the top down and it ran great except for a minor warm start issue that I am working on.

During the day, I set the memory seats, the mirrors, and the streering wheel for my wife, my son, and me. Evereything was fine.

Later, after getting in and out of the car a few times, I noticed the right mirror had moved all the way to the far end. The seats, the steering wheel, and the mirrors do not work now. I've checked the fuses, all are ok.

What I noticed is that there are spots for two switches on the pax door frame, and the top switch is missing. Gone! The wires are just hanging loose inside the body. One of the wires comes from the switch below, and the other connection has two wires coming out of the harness in there. All the wires a brown (grounds?). I do not know if the switch was missing before I bought the car (everything worked at purchase), or it came off during one of my wife's exits/entrances into the car.

Could the missing switch be causing the problem? What does the missing switch do? Lastly, I am ordering a new switch, which terminals do the wires go to on the new switch; the existing switch below has 4 spades on the switch and only two wires connections to it, other than the third wire going to the missing switch above.

I suspect the problems have something to do with this switch only because we busted a switch on our C280 once and the car did all kinds of crazy things until I found the broken door switch on it.

I looked at the driver's side. The top switch is a plunger switch, and I guess that's what's missing.

On the driver's side, the lower switch is not a switch at all, it is just a blank hole cover. I now think maybe the what I thought was a prox switch in the lower hole below the missing switch is maybe just a junction block of some sort?

Can somebody shed some light on this?

And would the missing pax door switch would affect the seats, the mirrors, and the steering wheel adjustments?
