A/C Switch Buttons Move Back
My car is a 1984 380SL. Today when I pushed a button to turn on the A/C, the entire switch section moved back into the interior. That includes the temperature wheel, the five buttons and the blower switches.
What ever holds the unit into the console let go. Any idea how it can be fixed? Is this a DIY job? Tom Cowles, Inverness, FL tcowl@earthlink.net

The console comes out pretty easily. I think you pry it from the bottom. I did it to replace some bulbs in the AC system buttons.

There are two screws and a clip that holds it in. Either glue holding together the wood has let go or the threads into the wood maybe let go. I just posted notes on the repair of the CC unit that describe installation / removal, and you can use these to help identify your problem:
