96 SL500 Transmission Shifting problem

Took the car out for a summer drive. temps in the mid 80's Drove approximatly 35 miles, watched a movie, Started to head home & while driving city traffic, car appeared to start out in 2nd. Stopped the car shifted from park to drive and car will not shift from first gear...Drove home in first at 40 MPH. Had new fluid repalced early last year...Not sure if related....when at stop light noticed AC appeared to blow faster .......

There is a switch 'W'-'S' make sure is in 'S' pos.

If you still have a problem with the tranny, I think you should take the car to the dealer or a well-equipped mechanic who has the Mercedes Hand Held Tester (HHT) or equivalent. It is possible the transmission controller has detected a fault and is deliberately set it to limp-home mode. No inexpensive scanners can read those tranny codes yet.

Yes, you are correct. Have scheduled a visit to the local Mercedes "Doc" Fortunately not too far to limp persea! Will let all know what Mercedes reports! Thanks for the reply!!

Okay, well here's the diagnoisis: Transmisson needed replaced as well as the transmission computer! Ouch, But now I'm renewed with a 24K Mercedes warranty! All in all, took advice on taking to Mercedes dealer than to worry about the ' ole tranny being repaired by the back yard guy! Thanks for all the replies!
