Hard start when warm

Hello,

I have a 1979 280 SL that I acquired recently. The car runs great and when its cold it starts instantly. However, after driving the car for a while it hard to start once the engine is warm. It seems that the car is flooding once the engine warms up. Any ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated. Also, any ideas on a good repair manual for this car would also be appreciated.

This is not a very popular suggestion, but the Haynes manual for the 123 body 2.8 gas engine (280E) is pretty good for the engine basics.

Does that car start OK if it sits for only a minute, and then take longer the longer it sits? If so, probably leaky injectors or a bad fuel accumulator.

I had the same problem on my 79 450SL- hard to start when hot, I changed out the fuel pump check value 158010532 $l5.00 and the fuel accumulator 0004760421 $100.00 this solved my problem.
Just changing out the check value my solve your problem

The owners manuals for both my 380SL and 560SEC refer to difficulty starting the engine hot and suggest you step on the gas.
