My '76 107 is Number 1

I agree. My '76 gets looks wherever I go. People feel compelled to approach me EVERY time I drive it. Today I actually took the old owner to lunch after having owned his car for 6 months and fixed a hundred little things that made a big difference.

Like usual, someone was staring at it when we pulled in, and minutes later there were 4 people checking it out that just wanted to tell me how much they liked it.

RZ Rob
BTW, I always drive it with the top down - I think people get a vicarious thrill.

Just to represent the 380SL owners out there, I would like to add our car to the above mentioned list. Were there 280SLs (R107s) sold in the U.S. ? Eventually I would like to get a set of the second generation of the "bundt cake rims", like the ones that were put on starting in 1986.

I don't mean to burst your bubble but the slc model of these cars is waaaay sexer than the sl. The best thing about the slc is tha you can buy at least 2 and usually 3 of them for what you pay for an sl. No rag tops to rot and break down, no one cutting into your car through the top, lower insurance rate, safer in an accident, can carry 4 persons (I didn't say adults), and you don't have a convertable so you don't feel compeled to drive with the top down and get beaten to death by the wind and rain. Besides the side profile of an slc is sooo much cleaner and eye appealing than that of an sl.

The 107 is nice but I'll take the previous 230/250/280SL any day of the week and twice on Sunday. That's a good looking car. The 107 just looks silly with 5 m.p.h. bumbers.

That is a matter of opinion! I would guess most USA owners are like myself and would have it no other way. Do you have a car speedy72t?

have both, and both have their pros as well as their cons.

107's with 5mph bumpers look ungainly. prefer the euro bumpers and euro headlights. The car was designed with these components and the N/A versions of both just kill the lines of the R107.

Sexy !

The most sexy Sl is what I drive , it is the Red 1982 500SL Euro with 15 slot Oem R129 16x8" Wheels and low profile tires .

Slim bumpers , Euro lights with wipers, removal of the ugly plastic rear spoiler and removal of the ugly stop light to enhance the smooth body lines .

Also the 500SL Euro is the fastest of all R107 SL's .

Any way its all a matter of choice .

But the 300SL gullwing is better .

That is why I bought mine.

My ’85 Euro 500SL has a complete AMG package in blue-black (Paint code 199) with all the chrome painted body color. The 16” rims and low stance makes it look sinister. I fell in love and that was the end. Not it’s my baby, my project. It always needs work and I drive it a lot.

With all that said, the 107’s are classic but not the sexiest car on the road. I’ll take a 2005 SL55AMG. I can’t buy one but …

I have owned many autos through out the years. My 2005 SL55 is by far the sexiest that I have owned.
