W107 Sunvisor electrical connection

Considering updating from early 80's sunvisors to the later 560SL illuminated sunvisors with the electric illuminated mirror. As the originals don't have the lighted courtesy mirrors, can anyone advise where the later model sunvisor wires are connected? Do they piggy back off the overhead lamps in the windscreen surround or is it a seperate power supply. Thanks in advance.

DIY 88 560SL sunvisor replacement w/ photos

It goes to the 2 lights in the windshield cover at the top. A jumper wire is used. I do not know of the older SLs had the lights in the windshield top.

W107 Sunvisor electrical connection

Hi Dave,
Sounds good so far, i have the overheads that operate from the factory switch mid dash. Can you enlighten me on how this "jumper" is connected ie where to where? Just don't want to start a barbeque in that windscreen panel after alls hooked up and I've done it wrong! Thanks in advance.
Brian

Take a look at this in the DIY section.

It has good pictures of the connector.

Check the wires to the windshield header light and see if you can find one that's always on; the one that actually powers the light is, after all, controlled by the door courtesy light switch. On my 560SL, the wiring follows the same path, but as I think of it I think I recall a wire(s) that bypasses the lamp to go to the mirror. Just had the header trim off this evening to tighten up the visor, but didn't pay much attention to the wiring.

Were you successful in wiring illuminated sunvisors to early 80's SL? I am in the process of replacing visors with wired/lighted version and would very much like to illuminate the set. Like you, I'm afraid of creating electrical havoc but I think that with the right connectors I could get the job done...

Wiring instructions worked like a charm. I broke the mirror at the last step but have already tracked down a replacement
