Cruise Control on 79 450SLC

The cruise on my 450SLC doesn't work, When I got the car it worked now and then, now it not working at all. I when to Mercedes dealer and got the proper stop light bulbs, as I was looking at the wiring diagram and the stop lights are tied into the cruise. Also, someone memtioned the wrong bulbs could cause the sytem no to work correctly. I am going to trouble shoot the system, but if anyone has experience with cruise controls, where would be a failure in the system most likely occur? Or is it a matter of troubleshooting the whole system?

Question Thank you for the site, not to encouraging, but

But very useful. I also have a 99 C280 and the cruise works fine, even has the step up feature and stop down. Tocuh accel for a instant and you increase the speed 1mph. same with decel. Now I see the New S Class and I read yesterday the Acura RL have the stop the car by itself cruise control with radar in the nose and all kinds of excity things, I guess. I am afraid there might come a day, when we drivers will just sti there and punch in our destination and order the car ahead warp factor 1 and that is it, howeve there will be no Zulu or Scotty just a computer.

Someone told me this new cruise control business is actual something that car manufavturs picked up from Nasa, as those probes brake, accelerate, turn and such via computer control from signals that ride on radar beams?
