manuals

I recently acquired my first sl, it is a 1985 280sl european model. I am looking for complete shop manuals for this car. From what I have learned so far, it appears I will need a -107 chassis manual and a seperate engine manual. Any input or suggestions?

Manuals

You will need a manual for a 110.982 engine and if your 280 is the same as mine (Euro) and you have Bosch D-jet injection you will need a manual with Section 7.4.2 (not easy to find) that covers the D-jet. Also go to http://www.icbm.org/erkson/ttt/engine/fuel_injection/d-jet.html covers the D-jet in detail.

A 1985 model has K-Jet.

There is a good M110 engine manual available from Mercedes. The US 107 manual or CD will work well enough for the chassis, unless you need to work on the climate control.

Here are a couple of fuel injection manuals that you may find helpful:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0837603005/bmwworld/002-6835081-0428835

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0879385707/bmwworld/002-6835081-0428835

I have both books and they seem to complement each other. Of the two, I've found the Watson book to have more practical how-to and diagnostic tips for sorting out problems.

Manuals

Whoopps
How did I get 75 out of 85. Bosch has some detailed manuals for the K & J
also. Google Bosch Technical Instruction Series. Also volvoclub.org.uk has a nice overview.

I have an '83 280sl and got the M110 manual from MB for $60 CDN and the MB chassis manuals from EBAY for $70 CDN. I also bought the CD from MB for $150 but now use it for a coaster for my Molson. I have a bunch of other literature on the car but for the most part the mentioned manuals should do you.
