129 A pillar leaks

In my case it was the hardtop weatherstrip that was the culprit. I found that by removing all the weatherstriping across the bow and sides that the
original caulking had hardened up and was useless as a sealer. With the hardtop off the car and on the stand, if you have one the job is fairly simple.
You first remove the screws across the front weatherstrip and pull that away. Then you gently pull the weatherstrip out of the channel back to the 1/4 window. you then remove the screws from the channel and carfully pry them away from the front enough to clean out the old caulk. I then used a silicon sealer in a squeez tube and applied a 1/4" bead from as far back as I could go up the sides to the bow. I then replaced the channels and cleaned up any excess. next I ran a thin bead up the middle of the channels to the bow and reinserted the rubber weatherstrip, Finally I loaded up the corners of the bow with a lot of sealer and ran a strip across the front. I then reattached the front weatherstrip and cleaned up the excess. Todate we,ve had some pretty good rain and HooRay......no more leaks inside. If you try this method, which is sugested by M/B good luck !!!!!!

Leaks Around Seals On Hard Top

I found your repair works. On my 450sl 1977, I used silicon sealer with 1/2 inch bead under rubber seal around area of leakage, and this solved leak problem! Thanks for good advice (PS found not necessary to remove old caulk although prefered method. my top was on car and had minimum working area. ( dont forget to release all 5 mounting points!) tighten when finished.Abe G
