129 Navigation solution

I have just got a great 99 SL500 and I love it. I do miss the navigation in my wife's 2002 S430 and am looking into adding navigation to the SL. Any advice on products. Is there a solution that includes stereo head unit and fits in the dash. I would prefer that over windshield mounted solutions if possible but am open minded.

You can get a flip out dash unit. I have one in my car and I love it. Some come with the navigation and with some you have to buy the nav system seperately.

Pioneer makes the Avic N2, which offers built in navigation. There are lots of these units. I got mine off of ebay.

Siemens

There was a very rare option on the SL that had a Siemens installed in the place of the ashtray. It was really cool, I have seen it only once in my life. I wish I had a picture of it. It really looked nice.

Install the Mercedes-Benz APS30. It is manufactured by Becker and is essentially a re-bodied version of the Becker TrafficPro. It fits the standard din slot where your existing wireless sits, is compatible with the D2B wiring harness in your car (so it connects with the CD changer and mobile phone handset if installed), it looks stock and, best of all, it was available as optionally ex-works. These units are available on Ebay for less than $500. I have pictures and info if you wish.

The APS30 was offered as standard fitment SatNav for £1500 in 1999 onwards. They can't match units like the Tom Tom etc but work perfectly well.
