California vs Federal specs.
I'm thinking about replacing the right header pipe off the exhaust mainifild because it appears to have a crack in it. This is a 1980 SLC. It appears I can buy the piece for about $100 bucks, Ferderal no pre-cat. The California with pre-cat is about $350. How do I know which ones on my car? I'm in NJ so legally I can order the less expensive type(much preferred). Not sure if I have a California or federal car. Please Help

check the color of the sticker on the frame near the driver's side door latch. I believe it if it is black it is federal and if its purple its california. I'm not 100% sure on this...can somebody back me up on this?

After doing some digging, I believe the 1980 SL'S and C's had a unified Cal/Federal emissions systems. With all the changes in that year that might sound right, certainly the decrease of hp that year (160hp) seems verify that. Anyone know If this is true?

Crack right header pipe with pre-cat
I also have a cracked header pipe with a pre-catalytic converter. There is a oxygen sensor just past the pre-cat. I live in NJ. the price difference between a header pipe with and without the pre-cat is $300. I'm concerned about performance or the oxygen sensor not working properly. did you replace the header pipe with one without a pre-cat (assuming it had a pre-cat) and did you notice any difference in performance?
