Question 1980 450SL Fuel Pump cut off location

Hi,

Can someone please tell me the correct wires to use or connection to jump so I can put a fuel pump cut off switch in my 1980 450SL?

Thanks
Jack

If you have the engine manual, look at job 073-165. It shows a lot of wire diagrams involving the fuel pump and relay. Basically, there are a few possibilities depending on how creative you want to be. You should also look at the ETM.

What do you want to use it for? (safety, anti-theft, working on the engine?)

Why would you even want to? It's bound to create all sorts of headaches for you, not a car theif. Maybe you should buy a Club, although you probably already have one, don't you? Is it because your paranoid about someone stealing it? Just make sure your insurance is in proper shape and don't worry about it, enjoy it for what it is.

I always like having a hidden fuel pump cutoff switch in my cars. It stops the punks from stealing it. Especially when I leave it with the top off at the beach in the summer.
I just want to know where to put the wires and run an inline switch.

This is an 80 SL with 63,000 documented miles not an slc hardtop.
It is very hard finding a 26 year old car with low miles.

Jack,
I am not really familiar with your SL and I haven't done this to mine yet, but personally I think putting in a cut-off is a good idea. If finding the fuel pump power feed is a problem, think about this alternative.

Again, you may need input from a MB guy, but I used an RPM signal on my 1974 3.0 CSi BMW. The computer requires an rpm signal within 5 seconds of ignition "ON" or continuous while the engine is running. If no signal, it switches off the fuel pump. This is a safety percaution in case of a wreck and the engine quits, but ignition is still on. In this car, it was a heck of a lot easier to find the rpm feed than going back under the rear of the car looking for the fuel pump feed. It worked perfectly and never gave me a problem.

Just a thought.

Fuel Pump Cutoff Switch

Hi all. Why not make things easy on yourself and just install a hidden kill switch (under the dash) to the coil feed. That will prevent anyone from getting the thing started and is a lot easier to do than trying to splice into the wiring for the fuel pump.

I have done this on all my vehicles and it is foolproof.

best regards,

fasted

A hidden fuel pump cutoff is hard to jump out. A kill switch to the coil can be bypassed easily.
Then again if someone really wants your car, a tow truck can always grab it.
I am just looking for someone that has found a junction area in their 450 SL and has put a switch in.

Thanks

Why not at the fuel pump relay. It should be above your fuse box.
