Over mats

Hi,

I want to replace the over carpets on my 1999 Sl320 which has a mushroom interior but have just been told that they are no longer available from the dealerships - has anyone any idea where I can get them from in the UK?

That is a shame. I just bought a set of factory carpets for our 400 and the TE. The dealer had both of them. Must be different in the UK. The 400 is a 93 and the TE a 95.

It sound to me like your getting the dealer hosing. This is where you are told a part is no longer available because it is too difficult for them get off there ass and look it up. I highly recommend you get a copy of the Mercedes Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) They are available on E-Bay for $20-$50. It is worth its weight in gold. With the EPC, you look up the part number yourself (then you know if it really does or does not exist). Give the part nuimber to the dealer or better yet send it to Phil at Fast Lane. And you get the parts you need.

This may not be useful to newer MB owners, but I have always gotten a fast (< 1 biz day) and very clear response with active P/N's and list prices from MBUSA Classic Center. Of course, you need to be as clear as possible with your question (supply VIN, color codes, etc). You may ask why I don't ask the local dealer first. I cannot print that answer in this forum. Armed with this, any dealer will be able to get you parts.

They are still available at the dealer. I buy a new set each year. I'm in the UK, too. They cost about 70quid a set.

Just to put a cat amongst the the pidgeons - these are no longer available to order - they have stopped being made. The only way to get them is if a dealer has any stock left. I tried getting some cream mats last week for a friend and there were two sets left. Black is the only colour that is readily available - £38 + VAT for the velour type.

There seems to be some contradictory advice here - JJRodgers can you let me know which dealer you use, the only one I've asked so far is South Lakes. Many thanks.

I use Mercedes-Benz of Newcastle upon Tyne. The parts man I deal with is Kevin Thompson or Eddie, who is a bit wacky but has an encyclopaedic knowledge. The dealership telephone is 0191 226 7444. I obtained some old "Brazil" (dark brown) colour velours mats early last year. I'm sure they were 70 pounds, though. I will be buying "Java" (beige) mats this year.

JJ

Many thanks for the contact - I've just had word back from them that the only ones left available are black. As my car interior is mushroom I guess I'll have to get some non orioginals from somewhere.

That's bad news because I want Java.

There is a pair of mushroom ribbed mats hanging up in the showroom near the door. Don't know if they would fit the SL, though.

There are a number of companies that make alternatives less the metal plate MB logo - you could transfer this from your old mats anyway if need be.

These come recommended from other MB owners:
