M117 V8 leaky intake port gasket, DIY instructions?

I made the grim discovery today that one of the intake port gaskets might be failing. Since I already have the CIS unit off, I might as well do this.

What is the proper procedure for removing the intake manifold and replacing intake gaskets on a M117? There is an EGR tube going to the lower intake plenum, so that will have to be removed as well.

Thanks for all help.

I removed my intake manifold with the EGR tube installed. Disconnect it at the EGR valve and remove the hard to get at screw that clamps the EGR tube to the back of the left head. Lift the maniflod out with the EGR tube installed.

Now clean out all air injection ports in the head and manifold. Best to have exhaust valve closed for the cylinder you are cleaning the air injection port on. Then blow into exhaust port. Have all other cylinder intake ports covered while you do this. Replace all intake manifold to plenum seals. Replace all rubber elbows on throtle body. Clean all gasket surfaces thourghly, very thourghly. Remove spark plugs and with valves open for each cylinder blow into each plug hole to remove cleaning debeis. Install manifold and torque to 20 ft lb in 3 steps. It will probably take you about 1 hour to reinstall the little bolt that clamps the EGR tube to the back of the left cylinder head.

Good Luck

A set of hex bit sockets with 6" bits (KD Tools) will make life a lot easier.

Hats off to Roncallo for getting the EGR tube strap off - I cut the damn thing.

Well getting it off wasnt too bad. Getting it back on really sucks.

OK I ordered the parts for the new manifold gaskets, and everything else. In the meantime I have started the disassembly procedure. I noticed that my EGR tube is one piece, from the EGR valve all the way into the manifold. Luckily I was able to get the EGR tube hex bolts off at the manifold entry point and if all goes well I just tilt the manifold to clear the tube and lift it out. We shall see....
