Are the R107 "subframes" under a lifetime warranty?

Hey Everyone,
My 77 450 SL (german model) has a few holes in the floorpan. I ran into someone several months ago who said his was a little more than 1/2 rusted out and Mercedes replaced it under a supposed lifetime warranty. Has anyone ever heard of that?? I called the vintage benz line found on MercedesBenz.com and the guy was a little evasive and said I must have it checked out by a certified MB service center. When I asked what they could even offer, he replied he wasn't able to say over the phone. I called my local dealer and the service advisor has never heard of such and any repairs would be my responsibility (monetarily, that is).

Service advisors have never heard of anything. Trust me.

Floor pans and subframe are two different things. Your floorpans are your problem (and not really a big deal for a competent body shop). The subframe in question is what holds the front lower control arms in place. No one seems to be able to get a firm answer on free front subframe replacement under recall warranty.

FYI: Mine appears to have been replaced. Probably about 10 years ago when it had some minor accident repair and restoration work done.

EDIT: If your car is a gray-market car (which you state it is), all bets are off. No warranty because MBUSA did not import the car into this country.

Thanks Page 62!! I've gotta get the real technical speak down so I can describe my problems in the future :-)

I really don't like going to the dealership for either of my cars but that weird reaction I got from the vintage line representative intrigued me to call anyway...should've known better.

The body shop that has the car and is restoring the outside can continue to fix the underside, in my opinion, based on your comments. They can do the job but I wanted to make sure there wasn't a less expensive option out there that I should pursue....sounds like a bust to me.
