Alarm

I just purchased a 1986 560SL and the alarm will go off 2 out of 3 times by unlocking either the driver or passenger door, but will not go off if unlocked from the trunk. I am thinking of replacing the alarm controll unit, wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? The original owner said due to battery replacement the radio needs to be reprogramed, there is no indication of power to the radio, I have read that there should be dashes on the radio if the anti-theft system had ben activated.
