Water ponds under hood, under ABS pump and air intake?
Hi,
I am just wondering if my car has something "normal" or if it is the victim of some aftermarket replacement body parts. I was washing my '88 560SL and after opening the hood I notice two "compartments" where a substantial amount of water had collected. They are under the ABS pump on the right side and under the intake hose inlet on the left side. There are apparently no drains in either area and there was about a pint to a quart of water in there on each side...I am wondering if this is "normal"? I can't imagine that MB would have designed this in such a way as to trap water, which would just invite the sections to rust out...it seems like this is structural and used to hold the front of the car on so I think they would want it to maintain its integrity...has anyone else noticed water in these areas??

I havent noticed water in these areas. But when I had a power stearing return hose leak, the oil used to pool on the left side, where you describe as under the air intake. I will try to remember to check it next tiome I wash the car.

Just look under the ABS pump from the wheel side, and you will see the drain. Poke thru the drain hole from underneath like in the attached picture. The same drain is on the other side.
