350 slc running problems

As regards my European spec MB 1973 350 slc

This model has electronic fuel injection and contact points. No smog equipment cat or anything like that.

Can anyone help me with this problem.

I fire her up from cold and she runs fine initially. But after a time, usually about five to ten minutes she cuts out. On restart it only feels like she is running on about two and a half of the eight cylinders.

So I leave her for a few hours and wham, up she starts again until the same problem develops.

This has been getting worse as time goes by. At first this only happened occasionally, and when it did, I got longer times and or periods for the problem to occur and there was a shorter restart window.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gerry

Thanks guys for helpful ideas. Problem now fixed. An old favourite culprit at fault. The connector to the injector triggers at
the base of the distributor wasn't making a clean contact. took it off, sprayed it with WD40 let it dry, reconnected, and
now (as we say in Ireland) its Oxo.
This has happened before, so anyone with similar problems...........

Thanks again

First, check all of your vacuum lines and electrical connections. Pay particular attention to the big connector on the distributor for the trigger points for the injection. Pull the rubber boot back on the connector and look for broken wires. Also, look very carefully at the injection system ground wires bolted to the engine block. See if any are broken or pulling apart by the bolt.
Second, go through the ignition system. Check/ replace spark plugs, check ign. point gap and timing. Check the dist. cap for cracks. Look at the engine at night while it's running, and see if you see any sparks jumping from ignition cables to ground. Correct as necessary.
Hint: You CANNOT diagnose a D-Jet system UNTIL the ignition system is functioning 100%, or you'll drive yourself totally batty.
Do all of this first and then we can go from there.

Fuel Filter

I would start by replacing the fuel filter.
