New Battery and Soft Top operation

The indicator lamp on soft top switch is blinking and the top would not rise.
I changed battery a couple weeks ago (after old battery failure).
Now, when I took hard top down, I discovered oil leaks but I was told that this never stops the soft top from working.
Does the fact I changed the battery has anything to do with this?
Do I need to do some kind of reset procedure for the top mechanism ?
The vehicle is 1999 SL600.
Thanks,

NOTE: This may not be applicable to a 1995 thru 2001. Try running the windows up and down to resync the system.

Mercedes Soft Top Controller Reset Procedure. R129 1990 thru 1994.

Locate the diagnostic connector: Under the plastic cover near the hood-up switch on
the passenger side of vehicle near the strut mount.

To recover codes for the soft top controller:

Connect a normally open (N.O. S.P.) switch between pin 1 and pin 10. A simple push button switch with leads or a short jumper lead will also work OK.

Short (close switch) 2 to 4 seconds to read error codes.
The lamp in red top switch ( in the console ) will flash out a number of pulses.
Count the pulses and see the chart.

Short (close switch) 6 to 8 seconds to erase error code.

There may be multiple codes stored.

Some codes may require reading / resetting twice before they will erase.

The codes that will suspend operation of a soft top on the R129 are 21, 22, 26, and 30.

A code of "1" indicates no faults and no hard top in place, while a code of "20" indicates no faults and the hard top is assumed to be on the car.

3.= Limit switch, right locked ,soft top storage compartment cover.
4 = left compartment cover closed switch
5 = right compartment cover closed switch
6.= left front latch switch.

10.= left rear latch switch.
11.= right front latch switch.

16 = roll bar retracted switch.
17 = Left window failed to lower (limit switch open).
18.= Right window failed to lower (limit switch open).

20 = Hard top installed, no faults.

23 = roll bar control unit not functioning.

25.= contradicting inputs.

27 = insufficient voltage.
28.= Speedometer signal is missing.
29.= Wheel speed from ABS control module missing.
30 = Top operation disabled (due to #29).

Just installed a new battery this past week also, and the top was down at the time. When I tried to raise the top, it went halfway and stopped,,,, had to wait for it to just settle back down by itself. Ran the windows up and down, then everything was peachy keen.

soft top problems

After driving around for 8 months with the hard top on my soft top didn't want to work, even the clam shell cover didn't open, light blinking. Put my hard top back on close the windows and held the button for 3 seconds to re-sync, locked and unlock the hard top a couple of times, removed it and the soft top worked like a champ after that, you may try closing your soft top by hand and try to lock it and see if that works, just get it on top of the front windshield bow with the key on to activate the proximity sensors, that might kick it in. it seems that after periods of time the soft top sensors switches and locks become "stiff" and just moving it around gets it back working. Window synchronization is necessary for top operation.After you get this fix, make sure you lubricate every moving part on your soft top frame and the rubber seals around it, Good luck

If your top stops half way, it's your window down sensors that need adjusting. These sensors detect when the windows are fully down and if not, then prevent the top from closing fully.
