560 sl passenger side high beam
Im not sure if the car is haunted of not,, but this is really driving me nuts.
I have a 1986 560sl, if i turn on the headlights, and the high beams, then start the car, the high beams work fine (both of them). however, if i start the car first, then turn the lights on, ocasionally when i use the high beams, the blown light indicator on the dash comes on, and the passenger side high beam wont work. i relpaced the high beam , but it does the same thing. this problem does not happen all the time , just sometimes. Is there a relay for each high beam (seperate relays?), if so any ideas why the lights would work as they should if i turn them on before i start the car, and where would this relay be located? the low beam bulbs work on both sides no problems. thanks steve |

This is caused by a bad connection dirty terminals, poor contacts in the switch etc. It could be anywhere in the high beam lighting circuit. The most likely area is by the sealed beam itself since it is the most exposed to the elements. The next most likely place is the high beam switch assuming the swich has seperate circuites for each beam (not sure if it does).

high beam
well i replaced the high beam, figuring it was possibly that, but it made no difference. i dont see what the difference would be between having the car running or not, im wondering if there is some connection that goes through the ignition that is being bypassed when you turn on the high beams before you start the car. like i stated before, if i turn them on before the car is started, i have no trouble, this includes after i am runnung if i put them on low beams, i can then put the high beams on no trouble , its got me stumped, i think if it was a bad connection or a wire ,that having the car running or not: would make no difference, thats why im thinking a relay somewhere??/
