Tranny Leak
Can anybody help me? This car is driving me nuts! I recently serviced the tranny on my 88 sl, the problem i have is, after re-filling with no leaks, I driive the car to work, approx 12 mi., it sits for the day underground, come out 5 hours later and pool of tranny fluid everywhere! Tow it home, new gasket, re-fill, no leaks, run the car, no leaks, 20 min spin, no leaks, sits overnight, pool of tranny fluid! Now i;m no mechanic , but i've owned mbz's for twent years and have maintained every single one myself. This has got me stumped and i'm ready to light a match to solve the problem. If there is anybody out there that might have a clue to what the problem is, Please help me!

You say you changed the gasket. Are you shure you changed the gasket it was leaking from. And which gasket.

Not sure if this applies here, but I had a similar problem on a Mustang. Turns out it was overfilled and was coming out where the dipstick tube went into the transmission. Also had an issue with an overtightened pan gasket that ruptured and would leak hot.

hge leak, probably 4 quarts, changed the tranny gasket. i hear that there is a valve inside the tranny that is supposed to close when it cools off, but if clogged, all the fluid from torque converter goes into tranny and overfills the 3 qt. capacity and blows your gasket , because it has to go somewhere. Now i'm going to flush the whole damn thing and try it again. Anybody ever heard of this problem?
