Pictures (repair)
Hi, When I first saw this thread I just thought it was another request for exterior photos. so I passed it by.
If it was retitled as a repair photos reference section and members who took photos during their repairs placed them here as well as in the thread it would be a great reference. The ones here now are great. Thanks Jack M |

Here is a good picture of how an 82sl heater fan control switch works.
The contacts are built like a tank and a vacuum control built in. With the fan switch turned all the way counter clockwise the vacuum closes off. If your heater fan doesn't have the variable speed you once had then clean the four contacts you see in the photo. |

I'd like to see a sub section for the 1990's Sl300 to 500's
I would love to have access to pictures of the engine compartment, convertible top replacement, diagnosing common engine problems using the 38 pin connector for instance. You name it on this car, I wish I had it or really easy access to it. Thanks, Steve

1992 500 SL
Here are some of my engine (119).
The first shows the engine from the bottom- The 6 bolt bottom engine is certainly rare. The second shows the front with the timing chain cover removed. The third shows the top the engine without the valve covers. The fourth shot shows the plastic timing chain guides- these are extremely cheap to replace but necessary at about 90k. Also visible are the metal oil tubes. Peter C. Sessler |

Dismantling an Auxilliary Air Valve (AAV - part 1)
A useful thread developed on BW regarding AAVs. Thought I would cross post some pics here of how to dismantle the valve if it cannot otherwise be cleaned.
Reached 5 pic max. see next message

Dismantling an Auxilliary Air Valve (AAV-part 2)
Here are the rest of the pics.
Thanks to Brad and Rowdie on BW on getting this to where we now know how to dismantle the valve. Next step, is how to adjust while it is apart!

Using a hydraulic press might seem a bit more gentle, but actually it only took a few sharp taps with the hammer and it came apart. It had been soaked in carb cleaner.
