Need a 1985 rear Euro bumper part

I'm considering buying a 1985 500SL that's available locally. The car is in pretty good shape except the rear center chrome section of the rear Euro bumper has been bumped into and damaged. The local dealer tells me it's not available. I did a search but couldn't come up with a source. Any ideas?

How bad is it? A bumper shop most likely can fix it. I had my front done, it came out great.

It's pretty bad; the chrome piece has a tear at the edge and it's scratched up and dented pretty badly. There aren't any shops around here that do re-chroming, so I thought I might try to replace it. Thanks for the reply, Eric .

I'm sure you can find one eventually. A lot of dealers will always tell you parts are not available for the euros. They are on ebay quite often. If all else fails, you could always put on the American version from a 380SL

That dealer is not going the extra step for you. All he has to do is send an email and get the part number. My MB dealer parts guy went to the trouble of getting the Euro 107 program to assist in procuring parts for my car. Everything that I have needed is available but has a different lead time and varying prices....from the surprisingly reasonable to downright highway robbery....depends what it is and what the demand is.

I had a feeling that's the case, Nobby, since he immediately told me it wasn't available, with no checking whatsoever. I might try a dealer in St Louis and see what happens. Thanks for the replies, guys.
