Anyone got 18.5K for a 1968 280SL
This is a STEAL. If I had the money, I'd be driving it.

Too bad it's got an auto transmission. Even worse is the word AUTOMATIC on the rear decklid...

It could be a Euro Car
I have only seen those automatic badges on Euro's. My 71 250CE had one, but by the time I got it, it was so wavy it would make you sea sick.

I see a lot of little nit-picky things that lead me to the conclusion that the seller would be making good money at $18,500.
The engine bay should not be black, it should be body color. This means it was repainted by someone who doesn't know classic German cars. The Automatic badge should be under the 280SL badge. Same reason as above. Seller says, "All the markings in the dash gages for temp and gas are in German I presume but its really easy to figure out right away." Sounds like he doesn't know jack about this car. Seller says, "It has 37000 kilometers ORIGINAL!!!!!!!!!" Sure it does! Ha! Is it just me, or does it look like the driver's door is open more than 90 degrees!! Broken hinges? When the firewall pad was cut, it was not done right. Again, no attention to detail when refreshing this "37,000km" 40 year old car. No vinyl cover for spare tire. No original-style locking gas cap. USA-style headlights and bumper over-riders on a Euro model? Must have been federalized. The elastic door pockets also say "USA" model, the Euros kept the 230SL style hard door pockets. But the instruments are metric, so....?? Hard to tell, but it looks like a more modern "fuzzy" carpet as apposed to the original multi-loop of the period. Another cheap fix?? No vinyl insert in the driver's door window crank (passenger side has one). Are those heater levers broken? To make this car respectable in the W113 community would take some time and money. It might be fine for a daily driver, but with the short cuts visible in the picture, who knows what rust might be hiding under that pretty red paint? Also, what about that engine & transmission? Properly cared for?

Good post above. The car made me suspicious as well. It was obvious to me that it was a repaint.
$18.5k for an auto? Nope - not a steal. It's overpriced.

MB was fitting headrests by 1969; didn't they in '68, and shouldn't they be on a 280SL?
