Need Advice on Removing console Side Panels in '87, 560

How do I remove a side panel of the console in my '87 560SL? Is the center console all one piece or is there a way to remove just the side panels. I need to get under the console cover to remove an unwanted CD Changer control. If I have to remove the console cover as one piece, how do I do it?

I know the carpeted sides are removable from the vinyl part, but the vinyl covered console is one piece from the dash all the way back. Don't know if you can get the carpeted pieces off without removing the console. Do know you have to remove the seats to get the console out.

The side pannels are clipped into the center console and there should be one screw at the front of the pannel near the gas pedal. And I'm not shure but maybe one in the rear.

Uncliping the pannels from the center console is difficult without removing the center console or tearing the clip (it's easy if they are already torn). I would suggest removing the console with the pannels to unclip them. You will have to get the service CD for the procedure to remove the center console but the service proceedure fails to mension that you will need to remove the electric mirror switch in order to slide the console back to release the aft end. This switch gets removed from the top by compressing the plastic tabs that lock the switch in place. (use a very thin screw driver).
