Which cyl has failed?

Looks like I'll be sending some to Dennis. The PO did 6 of the 12 at some point - I'm not sure which 6, so I need to go back through my records. I have 2 issues.

Last night, the top would go completely vertical, along with tonneau cover, but would not fold down any further. I returned it to position. Which cylinder should I be pulling for that?

Second, since I bought it, the top won't lock into place when closing if I keep the button depressed. I have to let off the button, then push it again, and it "pops" into place.

I also have to push the switch a "second time" to latch the top unless I rev the engine a bit. I think its due to low system ( battery ) voltage. Reving the engine adds the alternator voltage thereby increasing voltage at the hydraulic pump and thus increases fluid pressure.

What model year is your car? If you have the owners manual, the steps are in there.

You should be able to download the owners manual here...

Dennis Ficken

I live in Georgia, I am a disabled ARMY veteran. I purchased a 1999 Mercedes SL500 back in 2006. When my top lock hydrualic cylinders started leaking I called Mr Dennis Ficken and he encouraged and walked me thru removal of the cylinders. He fixed them and sent them back immediately. I have since had a leak and he is warrantying the cylinders as I write. He is the real deal as refferred by others on several Mercedes and BMW, etc. forums. It is hard to find honest, hard working people in the service side and he is all he is cracked up to be. It is 2014 and I still utilize him for all my needs. Thanks for everything Dennis. Carlos
