Question 1980 450Sl A/C Compressor Clutch Swap

Hi All,

My clutch on my a/c compressor is now shot. Is it possible to get a puller on it and change it on the car?
I don't want to have to go through the freon dump as I have r12 in the system and it will be quicker than changing the compressor & drier.

Thanks
Jack

We had a '77' 450SL that I changed the clutch on. I drained and removed the radiator, and anything else in front of the compressor, maybe the horn? Best I can remember.

I borrowed/rented the Frigidare pulling and installing tools from NAPA. You must do it from the underside and I had it up on a rack. I changed the hoses and belts at the same time. That was done around 1985, just before we sold the car in 1993 I replaced about all the components including the compressor.
