Smell burning oil, any suggestions?
97k on a 96 sl500 I smell buring oil after running the car fairly hard and parking it.
Im hoping its not the rings or the beginnings of an engine problem. I took a peek and dont see any leaking around the valve covers, although there is slight leaking under the engine, but not a lot at all.

it sounds like a minor lead onto the exhaust header, could be valve cover or other things. look carefully and i believe you will find it.

Doc:
Let me look into my crystal ball...hmmmmm...I see you fixing the small oil leak...I see you washing your engine to clean off the old oil...I see you motoring along with a smile on your face because the burned oil smell is gone and you are free of worries about possible engine problems. Found a PCV hose that was cracked in half with a ton of old oil around it, figured that was it. The heads and valve covers looked pretty clean other than the area around the hose.
