KKCC, OK now I get it. The wood is glued onto thin alum. strips which are attached to the channel with double faced tape. The wood strips can be pryed off fairly easy using a thin tool like a small screwdriver to get between the alum. backed wood strips and the channel. Once the strips were removed, I attached the Alsa laminate directly to the old wood. This adds a little bit of thickness to the strips. To overcome this I plan to use adhesive, maybe silicone, to reattach the strips. This will be thinner than the double faced tape originally holding the strips so net thickness should be roughly the same.
The total cost of the burlwood laminate is about $25.00 including shipping. All you need to order is 1 linear foot. Material is 2 feet wide. Shifter panel and a/c panel are extremely easy. Ashtray is easy once the handle is removed. Pry the wood off the ashtray. Mine was just glued on. Once wood is off the handle can be removed be removing the screws from the back. At this point all you're dealing with are flat surfaces. Easy. Total project time around 4 hours. Finished product looks really good compared to what I started with and should last a long time according to the mfg. |

I used a screwdriver with the tip sharpened to pry the aluminum backed trim out of the channel. Start prying where you have an exposed end. Did this all the way across the dash. My trim was held in place with thin double faced tape. Came off easily. Clean off the tape residue, and you're ready to re-install.
